'By Hammer and Hand' Letterpress Poster
Our "By Hammer and Hand" letterpress poster (13" x 19") was originally designed and hand printed in 2015 by Brian Stuparyk of Steamwhistle Press in Newport, Ky. It sold out almost immediately – our only poster success story. During the last eight years, many people have asked that we reprint it. So, with Brian's blessing (he's no longer in the printing business), we decided to do a new limited letterpress run of 500.
Not only is it a fun and handsome poster, it also includes useful information about nail types, the length of nail used to fasten common thicknesses of furniture parts, and the parts of a hammer. The art elements of the poster were hand-carved by Brian, and it is printed in two colors on a heavy cream-colored paper (suitable for framing), by Boxcar Press in Syracuse, New York.
The poster is $25, measures 13" x 19" and mails in a sturdy box.
What is Letterpress Printing?
This is the old-school way that books, fliers and posters were printed. A plate is created with raised areas that accept the ink. Each color requires a separate plate. Then the plates are inked and pressed against the paper. The plate leaves behind the ink and a tactile impression from the printing process. It is a printing process that is rarely used today.
P.S. We will not be selling these through our retailers, nor are we able to ship internationally. If you are outside of the United States, we recommend you try a mail forwarding service. More here.
