It is also an unflinching look back at old wounds that have played their own part in making Hiller the person she is; she documents her efforts to prove her worth to others, as well as herself, in the workshop and beyond. In doing so, she discovers the empowerment that can come from honoring the life you’ve made in response to the hand you’ve been dealt. Every one of us will at some point experience challenges that feel insurmountable. We can only exert so much control over circumstances and events, but more often than not, we have the capacity to decide how we will respond.

When you order the audiobook, you will get a link to download it as a zip file. It likely will go to your computer's downloads folder. From there you can import it into whatever audio program you please. It is free of DRM (digital rights management) and is presented in an mp3 file format.

About the Print Edition of 'Shop Tails'

Like all Lost Art Press books, “Shop Tails” is produced and printed in the United States. The book is 368 pages and measures  6" x 9". The text is printed on acid-free paper in signatures. These signatures are sewn and reinforced with fiber tape. The interior is then wrapped in hardcover boards and cotton cloth, and protected by a tear-resistant dust jacket.

Erratum for the first edition: On page 15, Hiller writes that her diagnosis is “adenoma of the pancreas.”  The correct name is "adenocarcinoma."

About the Author

Nancy R. Hiller (1959 - 2022) was a cabinetmaker specializing in period-style work for late-19^th- to mid-20^th-century interiors. She trained as a furniture maker in England, where she moved with her mother and sister at age 12, and worked in shops there as well as in the States. She returned to college at the age of 30 and graduated with a master’s in Religious Studies, specializing in ethics. From 1995 to 2022, she operated NR Hiller Design, Inc., based in Bloomington, Indiana. Her work has been featured in Fine Woodworking, Old-House Journal, American Craft, Popular Woodworking, Arts & Crafts Homes and the Revival and Fine Homebuilding. She has authored five books in addition to “Shop Tails,” among them “The Hoosier Cabinet in Kitchen History,” “English Arts & Crafts Furniture,” “Kitchen Think” and “Making Things Work.”
